Poetry Time: "Taboo"

Black and white,
Tint, yellow, red, and brown
Mongoloid, Negroid, Caucasian, Australoid…
Drop the categories already; but should we?
What if we are just 4 shades of nothingness?
Ever thought about that?
Really, what if we are just an illusion?
What if colour was just that: colour?
A delusion?
We seldom talk about these.
We call it taboo.
We talk about it in hushed tones.
We discriminate with a smile; the icecream smile, I call it.
One second it’s there, another it’s gone
We judge with the scripture at hand.
Rationale so bitter as bile.
What if there was no religion?
Drop that!
And what if Science truly agreed with religion?
You see, the world would be balanced.
Belief would be backed by reason.
Goodness! Superstition would be in prison!
But what if religion was not really the basis of unity?
And that we became one on the basis of our cosmos
That cosmos would be our judge
Whatever we fed it, that would be its grudge
Our energies; male and female
Balanced each other out for survival
Futuristic: That men would die and be redeemed by female souls!
What if this was our fate?
What if God played a prank on us?
That we would live to find each other
That one would find oneself in finding another?
Too many questions: Cut that! Seen Sin?
Take two: Have you seen sin?
We scorn at diversity in our hearts yet bicker about it with our lips.
Vague! Vanity! Tad
Would it be just to merely talk about diversity in the context of race and sex?
I reckon it would be boring to have one type of sin around too!
What if we remained one in sin too?
We wouldn’t begrudge a soul
Just because our souls sin differently!
What if we married a soul to another
And not a body with a brother?
What if we loved sisters who chose each other?
How would we look at a street beggar
The helpless
The homeless
The parentless
The raped
What if we all cared for them all?
The politician
The robber
The police
What if we prayed for them?
And then there is leadership
What if it was meant for the poor among us?
Would we give it up?
Probably if we voted with our spirits rather than our bellies I guess!
What if we overcame all these prohibitions?
Talked about them
Held each other’s hand
Left to right,
And walked into paradise...?
Wouldn’t we have contributed to bringing the Kingdom of God to us!
Alas Alas! I look to those days!
No mess, no fuss
Just love, amity and peace.
